Check or change your enrolment

Electoral DetailsMoved house recently or going overseas? Remember to take your vote with you.

What happens if I change my address?

You might be moving out of home for the first time or setting up your fifty millionth share house. Whichever it is, you should always remember to fill out a new enrolment form (new window) each time your details or address change.

When should I change my electoral details?

You won’t be able to vote if you have changed your address and have not updated your enrolment within three months immediately before election-day.

In some cases, if a by-election is called when a member of parliament or the local council resigns, you might only have a few days to update your enrolment.

Do I qualify for special arrangements?

Special enrolment options (new window) are available if you:

  • Have difficulty getting to a voting centre on election day
  • Are living or travelling overseas
  • Don't want your address to appear on the roll for safety reasons
  • Are homeless or have no fixed address
  • Are working in Antarctica

Federal elections also have special categories for enrolment. Visit the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) website (new window) to find out more.

How do I check my enrolment?

You can check your current enrolment (new window) on the VEC website.
