FReeZA

What is FReeZA?

FReeZA committees across Victoria organise drug and alcohol free gigs with live bands, dance parties and cultural events for young people aged 12 to 25, though most people who attend are between the ages of 14 and 18.

All FReeZA events are organised by a committee of young people for young people. You can tell your parent or guardian that all FReeZA events are supervised and the venues are safe.

How can I get involved?

There are a number of ways you can get involved. You can:

  • Come to one of the FReeZA gigs
  • Promote your band to play at a FReeZA gig
  • Join a FReeZA committee

If you want your band to play at a FReeZA gig, you can register yourself in FReeZA's Line Up Database (new window).

If you want to organise a FReeZA event, you can either start your own committee or join a committee that already exists in your local area.

Whether you want to start a new committee or join an existing one, the first thing you need to do is find your local FReeZA 'provider' (new window). FReeZA 'providers' are people who will help you to host a gig in your local area. They are usually people who work at your local council or local shire offices.

They will be able to help you to get funding  for your event and provide you with a lot of support and advice to produce an outstanding event that your mates will talk about for a long time to come!

Where can I find out about upcoming FReeZA events in my area?

You can find upcoming FReeZA events under the Gig Guide (new window) on the FReeZA website.

How much does it cost?

FReeZA is a not-for-profit organisation, so they're not trying to make dollars at your expense. All the costs are kept as low as possible and the ticket sales are intended to cover the actual costs of staging the event. You'll find that each event ranges in price from $2 to $20, depending on the venue and the event, though most are around the $8 to $10 mark.

What else does FReeZA do?

So glad you asked... most people associate FReeZA with the drug and alcohol free events, but now they are also providing assistance to young people who want to start a career in the music industry.

FReeZACentral (new window) is funded by the Victorian Government to help people under 26 who are interested in following a career in the artistic, technical or business sectors of the music industry. You can find out more from our 'FReeZACentral' page in this section.
