Emergency accommodation

Emergency or crisis accommodation is housing provided by government-funded agencies or charities to help people find somewhere to live immediately.

As a young person you may find yourself in need of emergency accommodation for a number of reasons:

  • An unstable home life
  • Family or relationship breakdown
  • Eviction
  • Risk of, or exposure to, crime, drugs or violence
  • Just being flat broke

If you or someone you know requires emergency accommodation, contact Lifeline (new window) or Kids Helpline (new window) as these organisations can connect you to local emergency accommodation providers.

Homelessness Services

The Office of Housing (new window) delivers help to people who need emergency housing to prevent them from becoming homeless.

It can help you with a place to stay while you work with them to make permanent arrangements.

If you or a friend needs accommodation in an emergency, contact them through the St Kilda Crisis Centre, or the Domostic Violence Service.
