FReeZA Presents: Lovers Grave
Lovers Grave is the new Melbourne band producing a solid barrage of furious hardcore music. With an impressive list of shows behind them, they are set to make their mark in the music scene in 2010 with the release of their debut EP "Dead City".
Guitarist Russ explains how the band got to where they are and what the future holds for them.
Can you tell us a bit about each band member and what they bring to the band?
Dillon, our vocalist, is a pretty creative guy who pays high attention to detail and always tries to get the best out of everything we put out. He's always jumping around like a crazy bat on stage.
Nick, our drummer, is a massive Xbox kid and is obsessed with Halo. He can also play drums well too and is usually making us all laugh by doing something stupid, like trying to eat 15 warheads at once.
Bailey, who plays bass, is the guy everyone loves and wants to cuddle. He's a really handy guy to have around and is always looking out for everyone and fixing minor gear problems for us.
I’m Russ and I play guitar for the band, so I spend a lot of time writing and helping the band to go in the direction we are aiming for, and the guys help me out with heaps of ideas that I try to get out there with them.
Lovers Grave is a relatively new band. How did you guys form?
The band began less than a year ago when Dillon and I started hanging out and writing music after meeting through mutual friends. After we started to find our sound we tried out a few guys and found the rest of the band and yeah here we are.
How has FReeZA helped you to get where you are now?
FReeZA has helped us by putting us on a few cool shows and has helped Nick and I in the past with other bands too! I was also a member of a FReeZA committee in Manningham when I was younger, which gave me a few fun times!
How would you describe your music and your live performances?
Pretty hectic, fast and heavy, but with a melodic side to it. Dillon is always jumping around like crazy and the rest of us try to keep up with him haha!
What are your musical influences?
Our influences are pretty broad. Nick and Bailey grew up on a lot of punk and hardcore, so I think they bring that into the band. Dillon and I bring the metal side into the band because we have been into a lot of European metal over the last few years. Some of the catchier stuff is probably influenced by indie dance music haha.
Can you describe the journey from starting out to getting to where you are now?
It's taken a lot of effort but it's been worth it and a lot of fun. A few of us have been in bands before, but none that were as hard working as this one. It took a long time to find the right members for the band but now it's a solid line up and it's really starting to get moving now.
What is Lovers Grave doing in the future?
We are recording right now, and straight after that we'll hopefully do some tours and be writing for another release. We don't like to slack off haha!
Where would you like to be in the next couple of years?
All the guys would love to get to opportunity to record with a great producer in Europe and put out a cool CD and tour it! We'll see how the first release goes first though yeah haha!
In a previous interview, Dillon mentioned that in 2010 you will be releasing your debut EP. Can you tell us about it and when it will be released?
The EP is titled "Dead City" and we are hoping to release it in April 2010. We'll keep everyone updated on our myspace about the release date. We are recording with some friends Tim and Vinn, who are doing a good job. Most of it is being done at a crazy home studio and some at a studio in St Kilda.

Lyrics: "Oceans" by Lovers Grave
i feel like this is catching up to me
all the wasted time ive spent
searching
and i wish that i could understand you
oh please wont you help
me
understand you
the echoes are still haunting me
oh the echoes they are
still haunting me
all the echoes are still haunting me
oh the echoes they are
still haunting me
am i carried by the sinking anchors
cos they never seem
to let me go
i am carried by your falling anchors
and they're dragging me
down
carried by your sinking anchors
carried by the falling anchors
i feel like this is catching up to me
all the wasted time ive spent
searching
and i wish that i could understand you
oh please wont you help
me
help me understand
i feel like weve been cheated
have we
have we
been cheated
the ocean wont let me breathe
x2
I AM NOT THE HERO YOU ARE
WAITING FOR
I WANT YOU TO KNOW
WE ARE STILL HOLDING ON
X2
GIVE ME A
SIGNAL, SEND ME A SIGN
ANYTHING TO KNOW IM ALIVE
X2
I WILL NEVER STOP
SEARCHING
I WILL NEVER STOP WAITING
X2
