Digital storytelling workshops
Our digital storytelling workshop usually runs over two full days. We walk the participants through the process of developing and producing their very own digital story.
We cover everything about planning, collecting, modifying and producing material that the participants can use to aid in delivering an emotionally rich and engaging story.
Day one
On day one we look at what makes a good story and the tools that can be used to make the process of developing a story easier.

We watch a range of stories and talk about what makes some stories more interesting or powerful than others.
In the afternoon we conduct our famous Story Circle. Each participant gets the opportunity to take centre stage and share their story idea with the rest of the group.
Day two
From the moment of arrival on day two it’s all hands on deck as we work together as a team to produce each other's story.
Once each participant has completed their storyboard and script, they are then accompanied into our
mini recording studio where the real magic takes place. We record everybody's voice telling their own story and then lay it over the top of their images as they watch their creation come to life before their very eyes.
The entire process is like to a jigsaw puzzle, slowly and collectively putting everything into place. All the skills that the participants have learnt on day one are put into practice on day two with support and guidance from our training staff.
Who can apply to participate in our workshops?
Our workshops are strictly only available to preformed groups of young people usually from within a school or community based organisation . Unfortunately we do accept individual applications. That being said, we have occasionally in the past run themed based workshops and sometimes seek applicants to apply for a positions to attend the workshop.
Applications are judged on the applicants idea for their story and their enthusiasm.
What skills are needed to participate?
No computer skills are necessary! All training is provided throughout the workshop.
To produce the digital stories we use a free program called Photostory 3. It's a small program but it's really quite powerful and also super easy to use.
While no computer experience is necessary, it's highly recommended that all participants have a clear and solid idea of what they would like their story to be about.
If the participants are students, this groundwork can easily be achieved by working on planning the stories at school before the workshops begin. If the participants aren't students, they'll need to take responsibility for their own preparation.
How many participants per workshop?
Due to the workshops being quite demanding, we have found that small groups of between 8 – 10 young people work best.
The great thing about digital storytelling is that it can be taught to a select number of young people who can then in turn teach their own peers. A digital storytelling workshop can turn out to be a great class project that is often driven by the students themselves.
How do I apply to run a workshop for a group of young people?
