Work with the United Nations
The United Nations Youth Association of Australia (UNYA) is looking for someone to become their new Youth Representative. Could that person be you?
UNYA Australia aims to encourage young people to strive towards a greater understanding of global issues, and to educate them about the United Nations' structure, functions and future.
Operating as a national network of young volunteers, UNYA Australia helps to develop students' skills in:
- Debating
- Negotiation
- Leadership
- Problem-Solving
- Understanding of international affairs
By encouraging young people to discuss and debate important issues amongst their peers and the broader community, UNYA Australia gives voice to the concerns of young people. Ultimately, UNYA Australia plays a dual role as an educational and advocacy body for Australia's young people.
What the Youth Representative does
The role of the UNYA Youth Representative will involve travelling around Australia to consult with young people all across the country to gain a good understanding of the diverse issues that concern Australia's youth.
The UNYA Youth Representative will be expected to present at the July 2010 UNYA conference in Perth. They will also to travel to New York City in September 2010, to be based at the Australian Mission to the United Nation for six to eight weeks.
The UNYA Youth Representative is also expected, upon return from New York, to communicate with the Australian community, in particular young Australians, about their experiences, including a report to be presented to the Australian Government.
The UNYA website (new window) has a full overview of the role.
How to apply
Applications are open to any Australian citizen between the ages of 15 and 24, though you must not be turning 25 until after 14 November 2010.
To apply you first need to submit an expression of interest to UNYA. If your expression of interest is successful, you will be invited to submit a longer written application.
The UNYA website (new window) has outlined full details of the application process.
