Meet the Roving Reporters
Roving Reporter Profile : Lauren B,
When asked to describe herself in one word, Lauren describes herself as unique.
Lauren is from the small township of Nhill, and is doing a gap year in 2011. While planning on studying engineering and commerce at Monash University, she spends most of her time working in a local café and also at a local Red Rooster franchise.
After hearing about youthcentral's roving reporter positions being open, Lauren decided to apply, hoping to make a difference. She saw it as an exciting and interesting way to investigate and assist youth culture.
Previously she had written an article for a local newspaper on her five-week exchange to Regina Beach in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. This is what sparked her interest in writing.
Now that Lauren has been chosen as a roving reporter for youthcentral she has some goals in place. She hopes to highlight the positive side of youth, which she believes has been lost in recent times, as well as providing informative articles about issues that concern her and peers.
In her spare time, Lauren enjoys sport, reading and watching movies. Her sports of choice are soccer, softball and cricket, which she spectates, and hockey, which she currently plays.
When winding down after a big day, Lauren reads books by authors such as Jodi Picoult, Matthew Riley and other bestsellers. When it comes to movies she enjoys the work of Morgan Freeman, Amanda Tapping and Ellen Degeneres.
In future years Lauren hopes to get involved in research and development after finishing her studies at Monash. For now, though, she hopes to continue to work towards her study ambitions while contributing to youthcentral.
