Of Stolen Moments - True Colours
Guest reporter Jack goes into detail, from cover art to vocal style, with the debut EP from Melbourne hardcore outfit Of Stolen Moments.
In July 2012 Of Stolen Moments, a 5-piece hardcore band from the Northern suburbs of Melbourne, released their debut 7-track EP "True Colours", which was recorded, mixed and mastered by Kris Truman.
Let’s start off by reviewing the recording. "Wow," is all I have to say. The quality and sound of the recording is amazing. It sounds like a professional recording you would hear from big bands like The Ghost Inside & LIFERUINER. The cover artwork by James Geary is sick, with lots of colours that I’m sure are in reference to the title. I really love this artwork.
The guitars are chunky and heavy - just what you would expect from a hardcore band - but OSM bring a more melodic kind of sound with the guitars too: lots of riffs that complement the bass and the heavy guitars perfectly.
The vocals are brutal, a perfect-sounding voice for this band. The lyrics are really well-written as well. It's catchy stuff that gets stuck in your head after a few listens.
The drums are really well done. I don’t really know that much about drums, so I can’t comment on them properly, but they sound really amazing and complement the rest of the sound spot on.
We can expect big things from Of Stolen Moments in the years to come. They are working on their debut album, and they say it's going to be better than ever, so look out for that late 2012 or early 2013. Already these guys have shared the stage with some amazing bands like Buried In Verona, Brooklyn, Summerset Avenue, Feed Her To The Sharks, Shinto Katana and Emerson.
All in all, this EP sounds amazing and looks amazing. If you're a fan of hardcore you should definitely think about picking up "True Colours" or checking them out online.
4 and a half out of 5.
