Making games is cheaper than ever before. Every man, woman, child and their dog can now pick up some cheap tools and get cracking.

Many are made by tiny teams, sold on the net, and find a niche, but not all games are born equal, and some of the best can get lost in the crowd.

So we’re taking a look at some of the new "indie" (ahem, "independent") games on the market, to sort the good from the bad from the boring.

First we’re going to look into the weird world of Tiny and Big: Grandpa’s Leftovers, a platforming-physics puzzler from the four-man team at Black Pants Game Studio.

Next, something stranger still: we dodge and weave past the laser-beams and bombs of Pineapple Smash Crew, the frantic imaginings of one-man-band RichMakeGame.

Slowing things down a touch - take one breath, now two - we round off our mad sprint through the world of indie games with a pleasant jog through The Dream Machine. It's an adventure game, it's Swedish - what’s not to like?
