Open Days

An open day is your chance to check out a uni or TAFE campusAn open day is your chance to check out a uni or TAFE campus and the courses it offers so that you can see if it’s right for you. An open day can help you decide where you want to study and which courses you'll to apply for.

If you’ve already made up your mind about further study, it’s still a good idea to go to a few Open Days to see what else is out there. That way you at least have a backup plan if your number one option doesn’t work out.

What can I do to prepare?

Universities and TAFEs only open their doors to prospective students once a year. Here’s how you can make the most of the opportunity:

  • Have a look at uni and TAFE websites to find out what courses and subjects are on offer
  • Think about the student clubs and activities you’d like to be part of and find out where these are available
  • Make a list of questions you’d like to ask teachers or students and take it with you on Open Day

What do I do when I’m there?

When you arrive there’ll be students handing out campus maps and information booklets. You can take your time to wander through the grounds and visit different buildings.

Each faculty will have its own stalls with staff and students to answer your questions about particular areas of study. There might also be course information sessions at certain times that you can join. You can:

  • Look at the facilities (lecture theatres, gyms, student accommodation, cafes, cinemas etc.)
  • Talk to current students about student life and the courses they're studying
  • Meet with lecturers and coordinators to discuss entry requirements and find out more about the courses on offer

How can I find out when they’re on?

Most Victorian universities and TAFEs have their Open Days in July or August. Some Open Days are held in May for those who might be interested in mid-year entry to a course.

Upcoming Open Days are listed on the Victorian Tertiary Admission Centre (VTAC) website (new window). You can also check individual uni and TAFE websites. See the Office for Training and Tertiary Education's list of Victorian TAFEs (new window) or Going To Uni's list of Victorian universities (new window) for links.
