Moomba - what is it?
Moomba, as you may know, is an annual festival that takes place by the Yarra River in Melbourne. Every year over the Labour Day weekend, thousands of people flood to the banks to participate in the numerous activites and events that take place. Since its opening in 1951, Moomba has become one of the largest and longest-running festivals in Australia, but why?
What is so unique about Waterfest? youthcentral, with the help of our roving reporter Marty Smiley, investigated the event, capturing the waterskiiing, carnivals, rides, concerts and fairyfloss stands, and talking to people about their impressions, opinions and memorable stories.
For some the festival is long-running tradition of family connection, for others it just an excuse to get out of the house. For years festival goers have known that 'Moomba' means "Lets all get together and have fun". But is this true? Find out.
