Sunraysia Gang Show 2009

Sunraysia Gang Show 2009On Friday 10 July 2009, scouts and guides from the Sunraysia Gang Show will burst on to stage with this year's show, "Everybody Let's Rock!", for another great year and another amazing show.

What is a Gang Show?

Sunraysia Gang Show is a variety stage production based on the format devised by the late Ralph Reader. In 1932 he and other fellow scouts staged the first official London Gang Show, which was to become the template and forerunner for Gang Shows around the world.

Since 1932, the concept of a Gang Show has been a growing phenomenon within the scouting, and more recently, guiding world. It is said that somewhere in the world, a Gang Show is playing every night of the year.

What is Sunraysia Gang Show?

Sunraysia Gang Show (SGS) has stayed true to the traditional format, and is performed only by active members of Sunraysia scouting and guide groups. It's staged annually at the Mildura Arts Centre Theatre.

The family-friendly variety show is jam-packed with dancing, singing, sketches and comedy, and some serious items here and there. The show is sure to please!

What's in store for 2009?

SGS is 33 years young and showing no signs of letting up. This year take a step back in time and sing a tune with Ned Kelly, or Johnny O'Keefe, or perhaps rock it out to classics such as "TNT", "Friday on My Mind" and "Help".

You'd better watch out for the witches, and you'll be shocked by the hats! Perhaps you'd prefer to rock all over the world with the Muppets, and of course finish up with the always-spectacular finale. "Everybody Let's Rock" has it all!

A word from the cast

I had a word with Louise Hodgetts, who's been involved with the show for thirteen years now and is showing no signs of giving up yet!

"I love being in Gang Show because I love being in theatre," Louise told me. "Working through all the rehearsals may be frustrating, but being on stage makes it all worthwhile!"

When asked what her favourite item from this years show is, she replied, "I love them all! But the Johnny O'Keefe medley is going to look spectacular with the rock 'n' roll dancing and singing." She also said that "the dance-off between Austen Powers and Good Lovin' is going to be hilarious! We all put so much work into the show, and it really shines through in each performance."

When and where?

Like every year, SGS will be performing seven shows this July at the Mildura Arts Centre Theatre. Dates are as follows:

  • Sat 11 July: 7.30-10.30pm
