Roving Reporter Profile : Anthony L, Sport & Body Image Reporter
Body Image is something you can all too easily just shove aside. My parents frequently inform me that today is very different to the life they grew up in, and I agree. Without sounding all preachy about it, it's tough for us young boys and girls to grow up in this complex world which seems to be intent on labeling us to the nth degree.
I am fortunate that youthcentral has allowed me to be able to report on and inform you about what people and our governments think of this touchy subject, and to debunk the myths and truths behind this matter.
Finishing year 12 at St Bernard's College in Essendon as College Captain in 2009 was a tremendous experience, but my years studying haven't all been as awesome as my final year. Almost inevitably I copped flack for whatever, and even had the misfortune of seeing others go through similar difficulties. That's not just at my school, but these prbalems are widespread.
OK so a bit more about me? I'm a news junky. All aspiring or current journos today will tell you they read the newspapers and watch the news instead of reading Zoo or watching The Simpsons. It's my lifeblood. I can't live without news.
I have a passion all round to be part of the media. At 15 I volunteered in community radio and have done announcing and newsreading at SYN and JOY FM up until today. There's also the fair chance you may have seen some of my work in a letter to the editor in a paper somewhere.
When I'm not watching the 6 o'clock news or listening to news on the radio, I am a keen lover of all things sport.
Not hard to do when you're a guy living in the sports capital of the world. It's probably why I wouldn't ever dream of moving away from such a sporty place. Seriously I couldn't tell you all the things I've been to. Australian Open matches, A-League finals, NBL finals, AFL Grand Finals, the Commonwealth Games, and hundreds of AFL matches involving my beloved Tigers.
But I wasn't always the aspiring journalist I am today. I used to be track sprinter and local footy midfielder. Maribyrnong is pleasantly my home, an underated place to grow up with a river, shopping centre and public transport all at my fingertips. The perfect place to foster my love for sport.
So as I look to studying journalism at Uni in the year ahead, I can't wait to dive in and tackle the issues of Sport and Body Image.
