Roving Reporter Profile : Sharnee,
Sharnee is a 17-year-old fun-loving girl who loves to rollerblade with mates, go horse-riding and enjoys spending Friday nights at youth group. She loves music, is currently studying trumpet, trombone and flute, and is a member of East Gippsland Brass.
She is studying year 11 English, chemistry, maths methods and year 12 biology at Lakes Entrance Secondary College. She describes her school as "a small caring community where every individual matters". Sharnee is also a house captain, school council representative and an enthusiastic member of the Jazz combo, brass ensemble and senior stage band.
She has a passion for helping others. Whether it's doing the 40-Hour Famine, mentoring fellow students, volunteering at the local special school or leading a youth camp, count Sharnee in! Whether big or small she's always there to extend a helping hand. She says, "Too often we look for the 'big' opportunities to help others, yet we miss the small ones that surround us every day."
Sharnee found out about youthcentral from Gippsland Lakes Community Health workers. Sharnee decided to apply for the roving reporter job "to inspire the youth community to make a go of their lives, no matter what the challenges may lay ahead".
Sharnee is a young Christian girl who is enthusiastic about sharing Jesus with people. She made a commitment to God about 1 year ago and says "making a commitment to follow Jesus was the best thing I have ever done! God showed me love when I thought there was no such thing. He rescued me from the bottomless pit of my own destruction." This young girl knows that no matter what happens, God will carry her through. She embraces life and looks forward to the future God has in store for her.
When asked, "If you could be anyone for a day, who would you be?" Sharnee, constantly ready to extend a helping hand, replies with, "I would be someone from a Third World country." She would aspire to share her story with the world in extending a helping hand.
She's a small town girl and says "I've travelled England and Europe, but nothing beats my home town."
With the type of personality Sharnee has, she asked me to leave you with one thing - "It doesn't matter what background you have or where you come from. It only matters what you want to do. Dream BIG!"
