NightRider adds more buses
It's 2am on a Saturday night in the city and you've got a pocketful of change to get home. Walking home to Eltham just won't cut it and there's a queue for the next taxi. What to do? Looking inside your wallet you see a Metcard. Solution? NightRider!
Changes to NightRider
There have been recent improvements to the NightRider service.
- Buses now run every 30 minutes instead of every hour
- New NightRider now run to Doncaster, Cranbourne and Healesville
- A new service now runs to the city via Docklands
Whether you want to travel to Werribee, Frankston, Croydon or Bayswater, or many other suburbs, there's a NightRider service to get you there. All you need is your Metcard to jump on board.
So how much does NightRider cost?
The NightRider buses cost only as much as a standard trip on a Metcard costs. And Daily or 2-hour Metcards validated after 6pm can be used on the NightRider buses until 3am!
There's also an on-board phone for you to use. You can call taxis for freee, or if you want to call someone to come pick you up, it only costs $1!
More details about the changes
NightRider buses now depart from the City Square on Swanston Street every 30 minutes between 1.30am and 4.30am on Saturday mornings and 1.30am and 5.30am on Sunday mornings.
The new City - Doncaster route departs from City Square every 30 minutes between 12am and 4.30am on Saturday mornings and every 30 minutes between 12am and 6.30am on Sunday mornings.
The new Cranbourne Loop extends from the end of the Dandenong NightRider route. It departs from the terminus at Lonsdale Street, Dandenong every 60 minutes between 1.30am and 5.30am on Saturday mornings and 1.30am and 7am on Sunday mornings. It runs in both clockwise and anti-clockwise directions on alternate trips.
The new Healesville Loop extends from the end of the Croydon/Lilydale NightRider route. It departs from the terminus at Main Street, Lilydale every 60 minutes between 2am and 5am on Saturday and Sunday mornings. It runs in both clockwise and anti-clockwise directions on alternate trips.
With more than 450 stops along twelve major routes between the Melbourne CBD and:
- Bayswater
- Craigieburn
- Cranbourne
- Croydon
- Dandenong
- Doncaster
- Eltham
- Epping
- Frankston
- Healesville
- St Albans
- Werribee
as well as a host of other suburbs on the way, NightRider is a safe alternative for late night weekend travel.
