The Wangaratta area of north-eastern Victoria includes the towns of Bright, Myrtleford, Benalla, Wodonga, Beechworth, Mansfield, Wangaratta and Corryong as well as the ski resort areas of Falls Creek, Mount Hotham and Mount Buffalo.

Major industries in north-eastern Victoria include hospitality and tourism (including major ski resorts, national parks and wineries), agriculture and horticulture (including fruit and vegetables, viticulture, tobacco, cereals, beef, wool and dairy), wine production, forestry and fishing, retail trade, manufacturing (food, munitions, particle board, electronics, pet food, packaging, paper mills), education and training, health and community services and retail trade.
