On Valentines Day 2015, Australian of the Year Rosie Batty launched the new iMatter app, an app that helps young women understand the warning signs of abusive and controlling behaviour in relationships.

iMatter aims to:

  • Build resilience
  • Educate about disrespect and intimate partner violence
  • Promote conversations about what is and what isn't healthy relationship behaviour

Research indicates that:

  • Young women aged 15-19 may see abusive and controlling behaviour as protective and caring
  • 1 in 5 young women under 20 have been victims of actual harm from dating violence

With iMatter you can:

  • Share content
  • Save content to your phone
  • Learn how to recognise and respond to controlling or abusive behaviour

You can also use it to help your friends or family out if they are experiencing violence or controlling behaviour in their relationships.

iMatter provides a regularly updated series of:

  • Positive messages
  • Videos
  • Quizzes

about the warning signs and the impact of intimate partner violence.

It also provides information about:

  • Self-esteem
  • Assertiveness
  • Support services

iMatter has been developed by Doncare, a nonprofit community organisation providing counselling and emergency support services, with assistance from the Victorian State Government's It's There for Life grant funding.
