Passengers aged between 5 and 17 years old can use public transport for free with a Youth myki.
How can I get a Youth myki?
To access free travel, you will need to purchase a Youth myki card for $5.
Purchasing a Youth myki is easy. Simply create or login to your existing myki account, purchase and register the Youth myki, and wait for it to arrive in the mail.
Due to high demand, Youth myki deliveries may take a few weeks to arrive by mail.
You can use your confirmation email as your travel ticket while you wait for the card to arrive.
If you'd prefer to buy a Youth myki in person, you can purchase one from a staffed train station.
Visit Transport Victoria’s website for information about youth myki.
How do I travel with a Youth myki?
Simply tap on and off using your Youth myki. You will not be charged a fare.
Tapping on and off makes your entry and exit smoother, especially when traveling through a station with myki barriers.
Customer service staff will be able to assist young people on the public transport network if they do not have a Youth myki card.
What happens when I turn 18?
If you purchase a Youth myki online, it will expire once you turn 18. Youth myki cards purchased at train stations are valid for 4 years.
Once you turn 18, you will need to replace your Youth myki by purchasing either a concession or full fare myki card.
Visit Transport Victoria’s website for information about myki types.
Do I need to carry ID to verify my age?
No, you will not be required to carry proof of age or ID. However, it is recommended children aged 16 and 17 carry ID if you have it.
