An apprenticeship or traineeship is a great stepping stone into a career. Here's a look at some of the benefits of becoming an apprentice or trainee.
You get paid to study
As an apprentice or trainee, you get to earn while you learn. You might also be eligible for financial assistance from the government while you train. Find out more on our Financial help for apprentices and trainees page.
An apprenticeship or traineeship is your chance to do paid work and get trained so you end up with a nationally recognised qualification. That means you could work anywhere in Australia. In fact, you'll learn skills you can use anywhere in the world.
Most apprenticeships or traineeships can be undertaken on a full-time or part-time basis and are fairly flexible in their set-up.
You'll get great training
Apprentices and trainees learn industry skills through a combination of on-the-job paid work, and study at a TAFE or another registered training provider. You get to put what you learn into practice on the job. After your training, you’ll get a qualification at Certificate II, III, IV or Diploma level.
You've got the same rights as all workers
Apprentices and trainees have the same rights as all employees. If you have any concerns about your contract or what’s happening in your workplace, there are organisations that can help. Find out more on our Apprentice and trainee rights page.
You can enter competitions and win awards
Awards, programs and competitions are a great way to hone your skills, develop your networks and win prizes.
